It is human nature to react to challenges that arise within our community. It is far more difficult to be adaptive and put systems in place to make our community better able to deal with the unknown challenges the future holds. It was with this impressive foresight that a small group of students took the initiative to make Meeting for Business a part of the Upper School experience. With the help of some dedicated faculty members and the student body presidents, Meeting for Business is now becoming an invaluable platform for involvement and a beacon of Westtown’s Quaker heritage.

In all of my interviews with students, no matter the topic, an appreciation for the closeness that is cultivated between all members of the Westtown community emerges. Our students recognize its critical importance in formulating sound minds and open hearts. Time and time again they have explained to me that this closeness is central to what makes Westtown such a special place to live, learn, and grow.

There is no denying that we are living in a digital age. As our students spend more and more of their time in a virtual landscape, it becomes increasingly important to offer them opportunities to unplug and interact and learn from the natural world.

Twice in the last two years the Varsity Field Hockey team has gone to the FSL finals against ANC and lost (and the semi-finals the year before that)! Needless to say, there is a heated rivalry brewing amongst the players as they are determined to both beat ANC and take the championship this year.

The idea that dance is an effective means of expression was prevalent in my brief interviews with both Middle and Upper School dancers. Teachers Julia and Jenny strive to demonstrate the communicative power of dance and its ability to enrich the lives of those who practice the art form.
